High School Fall 2012 Digital Literacy and Ethical Use of the Internet

WEEK 1--NO LESSONS
 
WEEK 2
September 5: Download this 1st Day Internet Safety Trainng for Students and follow the instructions provided.
 
September 6: Download this 2nd Day Internet Safety Training for Students and follow the instructions provided.
 
 WEEK 3
September 11: Download this PowerPoint Presentation and show it to your students. Discuss.
 
September 12: Download Google Apps for iBHS presentation and show it to your students. Discuss. NOTE: Part of the presentation is a YouTube video. Make sure to quickly move to the next slide at the end of the video. Periodically, YouTube has questionable links in the sidebar after a video.
 
 WEEK 4
September 18: View the short humorous video created by Mark Fitzwater's class. Make sure to stop the video at the end. It starts another segment immediately after this one.  Then download and go through PowerPoint detailing the consequences of damaged iPads.
 
September 19: Go to this link and scroll half way down the page to view the video and discuss privacy settings on social networking sites. Specifically discuss this: once you post anything online, it no longer belongs to you. It is public. Students have lost scholarships, jobs, and friends over posts on Facebook and other social networking sites.
 
WEEK 5
September 25 & 26: Students receive iPads in English. Continue with setup and basic skills. See the video How to Set Up Your iPad if needed.
 
WEEK 6
October 2: Have your students go to this link http://goo.gl/5KSrk to take a short survey. The students can access the STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SURVEY from the BHS website under QuicklInks. 
 
October 3:Please download and show This short PPT. The student's ticket out is to show you that they have named their iPad correctly and have FIND MY iPAD chosen.
 
WEEK 7
This week we will be doing two things. For those homerooms that did not do the survey,  you will need to complete that. Additionally, you will need to have your students enroll in Absolute MDM so they may receive the apps the district has provided for them.  
October 9:  All students who have not taken the survey will need to go to BHS home page (www.bisd.net/bhs)
 
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9--SENIORS ONLY:
During this week, each student will need to download an app which will allow us to deploy apps we purchase for them. In order to do this,  they will need to go to the BHS website and click on ABSOLUTE under Quicklinks. Then you will show them this page with detailed instructions. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE DOCUMENT so all students may receive their apps this week.
NOTE: Students may not be able to complete the downloading of the apps at school because some of the apps are very large. When hundreds are downloading at once, it can cause an issue.
 
 
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10--JUNIORS ONLY: 
During this week, each student will need to download an app which will allow us to deploy apps we purchase for them. Tuesday, October 23--EVERYONE WHO HAS NOT TAKEN THE SURVEY
If you did not ask your class to take the survey, please do so today. The students can access the STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SURVEY from the BHS website under QuicklInks. There will be a random drawing from ID numbers of students who have taken the survey. The winner will receive a $50 iTunes gift card!
 
Wednesday, October 24
Please click HERE to download and show the iPad Case Powerpoint to students and discuss the importance of keeping their lid on their iPad case and taking care of their iPad.
Also, please enforce the fact that students need the lid on their iPad case covering the screen when they are not using their iPad.
