For the Spring of 2008, the following classes are offered under Computer Courses, Special Interest Classes, and Kid's Corner.

Computer and Health Service Courses

COMPUTER BASICS WITH INTERNET & E-MAIL & CD/DVD BURNING

Start at the beginning, learning the computer inside and out. We teach the basics of Microsoft Windows and utilities to help you get the most out of your computing experience. Learn how to find your way around the wide world of the Internet and leran the basics of communicating with ease using e-mail to send and receive text and pictures. Learn how to use CD's and DVD's for storage of data and pictures. This course will use Windows XP based computers. No prior computer experience required. (6 sessions)

PHOTOSTORY

Bring new life to photgraphs with PhotoStory! In this class you'll learn some basic digital camera tips and then create slideshows from digital photos, add special effects, soundtracks, voice narration, and personalize photo stories with titles and captions. You will also learn how to save a PhotoStory into a movie format to play back on the web or computer. (Feel free to bring your camera and USB cable to download your digital pictures or bring them on a CD if you prefer to work with your images.) (1 session)

VIRUS/SPYWARE & BASIC SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

Want to rid your computer of the many nuisance programs and "junk" software that creep into your system and cause it to malfunction or bog down? Learn how to best protect your system from future intrusions and how to detect possible re-infections. Learn how to scan, clean, and perform routine maintenance to help keep your computer running smooth. (3 sessions)

MOVIEMAKER

Get creative with Microsoft MovieMaker! In this class, you'll learn basic digital video camera techniques including how to transfer video from camera to computer. Then create a movie using video and audio clips, photos, special effects, titles, and transitions. you'll also learn how to save your movies into formats for web and computer playback. Ever wonder how you can make gifts and books with your digital pictures? This is the place for you! Bring you pictures (on CD, a memory stick or in the camera IF you have your USB cable to download the pictures) and learn how to make gifts and keepsakes with free software. (1 session)

MICROSOFT WORD WITH MAIL MERGE

Get the most from this powerful word processing application. Learn the basics of creating a document, cutting and pasting, formatting, saving, importing graphics, and managing long documents. Learn how to use Word to setup databases of information such as names and addresses to create labels, letters, and many other mass-mailing types of projects. (5 sessions)

BUILDING & BASIC REPAIR OF A PC

CPR FOR FAMILY & FRIENDS

Learn the newest updates from the American Heart Assoc. for basic instruction in lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies involving adults and children. An AED (automated external defibrillator) will also be demonstrated. This is an excellent class for parents, teachers and BISD volunteers. Class size is limited. (1 session)

ZUMBA is a dance-aerobic workout for men & women that uses footwork and body movements to the beat of Latin rhythms. It's great for the mind, body and soul. INTERMEDIATE SIGN LANGUAGE

BABY SIGN LANGUAGE
Have you ever felt frustrated while trying to figure out what your baby or toddlers needs are? Do you wish they could just tell you? Well, we have an answer for this language gap. Communication can be achieved through sign language, allowing your baby to express their needs before they have mastered verbal language. This learning process is for both parent and baby. Class is appropriate for parents or future parents and babies 18 months and younger. (11 sessions)

MASTERING SUDOKU PUZZLES

This is a great class for those who love a challenge! Want to learn the tricks of the trade in solving Sudoku puzzles? We will begin with a basic understanding of the framework of level 1 puzzles and then move toward gaining insight and experience in looking for both open and hidden "pairs" to solve level 2 puzzles. You will be the envy of your friends as you progress to using "X-wings" in solving the more difficult level 3 puzzles. Come and join the fun. (3 sessions)

BASIC NAKED EYE ASTRONOMY

Are you a natural star gazer? Come and learn the basics of astronomy without the aide of binoculars or telescopes. In this class you will learn how to find the North Star (Polaris) any night of the year, find and point out to others the major late winter and early spring constellations, such as Gemini - the twins, Leon-the Lion, etc. You will also prepare for viewing a total lunar elipse on the night of February 20th. SILVER JEWELRY MAKING

Learn the art of chainmaille! in this class you will learn the proper way to make and work with jump rings and link them together in a pattern to make a bracelet. No previous experience needed. DOG OBEDIENCE CLASS

Turn your dog into a well-behaved member of society. Even an old dog can learn new tricks. This is a basic class taught with no resistance training, treats and lots of praise for good behavior. A required "Gentle Leader" collar may be purchased from the instructor or a pet supply store. Please bring copy of shot records. In case of bad weather class day/s will be rescheduled. ONE-STROKE GLASS PAINTING

Learn to paint beautiful spring flowers on a Cobalt Blue glass vase. In just two lessons you will complete a project and learn several basic strokes that you can paint on basically anything. Classes are taught by a Certified One-Stroke Instructor. It is a fun and relaxed class for beginners and experienced painters. All paint supplies are provided. Participants need to bring a dark blue Cobalt glass vase approximately 8 inches tall. (2 sessions)

Kids' Corner

TAE KWON DO

Master Instructor, Bill Smith, provides fun, challenging, and exciting classes.  Kids learn self-respect and self-confidence.  Adults improve cardiocascular conditioning, flexibility, and self-defense skills.  Instructors are certified Black Belts from the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.  Additional fee for students wishing to receive test administration for increased belt level (cost to include belt).  Karate uniform available for purchase but not mandatory.  Parents are always welcome to watch!
