Belton High School Marching 100

Grant McWilliams

Grant McWilliams is currently in his second year as an Assistant Director of Bands at Belton High School. His duties include conducting one of the concert bands, assisting with the other performing groups, and overseeing and acting as the coordinator for the Color Guard program. Prior to coming to Belton, Mr. McWilliams served two years as an assistant director at North Mesquite High School and one year as an independent trumpet instructor, judge, and clinician in the DFW area.

Mr. McWilliams spent four years marching with The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps where he was a member of the lead trumpet section, serving as the section leader in his last two seasons. During his time there, The Cadets were twice crowned as the Drum Corps International World Champions in 1998 and 2000, received a perfect score in the visual caption in 1998, and were the recipients of the Jim Ott high brass trophy in 2000.  While with The Cadets, Mr. McWilliams had the opportunity to learn from some of the finest instructors in the activity, including George Hopkins, Marc Sylvester, and Gino Cipriani, to whom he credits his passion for excellence and the marching arts.

Mr. McWilliams currently serves as a member of the visual staff for the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, where he is about to enter his third season. Prior to joining the Troopers in 2007, he served as a member of the visual staff with Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, where he also assisted with the brass staff.

Mr. McWilliams holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Texas A&M – Commerce, where he was a member of the wind symphony, jazz ensemble, chorale, and chamber singers. He also served as the Drum Major for the Pride Marching Band from 2000-2002. While at Commerce, Mr. McWilliams studied trumpet with Conrad Bauschka and Bert Truax, and studied conducting with Brad Kent and Jeff Gershman.

Mr. McWilliams holds professional affiliations with the Texas Music Educators’ Association, Texas Bandmasters’ Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Kappa Sigma, and is an active adjudicator for the United States Scholastic Band Association.
