School Nurse

ArndtMary Arndt is Belton Middle School's nurse.

The following are some general medication and immunization guidelines for students. Additional information can also be found on the BISD Health Services page.

Medication:  All medication given at school requires a current written order from the child’s physician.  This includes “over-the-counter” medicines such as benadryl, Tylenol, Advil, etc.  All  asthma inhalers must be kept in the nurse’s office unless the doctor has written a specific order for the student to carry it while at school.

Immunizations:

By the time of each student’s 12th birthday, they will need to have had the following vaccinations:

  1. (1)   Hepatitis B – this is a series of 3 separate shots that take a minimum of 6 months to complete,
  2. (2)    #2 MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
  3. (3)     Varicella (chickpox) – if your child has already had the chicken pox, a letter from the parent or physician with the approximate date of the disease can be a substitution for the immunization.

These immunizations are available from your own physician or at the Bell County Health Department in Temple every Wednesday and Killeen every Monday.

Special Needs:  Any specific needs of a student will require a current note from the student’s physician.  This includes things such as PE restrictions, any specific health conditions that may require special adaptations for your child, and substitution of juice for milk allergies (this is required by the food service department).

Screenings:  All 5th grade students will be tested for vision and hearing.  They will also have a spinal screening done to check for scoliosis.  The parents will be notified of any problems.
