Music
Our goal is to have students leave Lakewood Elementary enjoying music and understanding it enough to pursue it as an extra-curricular activity in middle school, high school, and beyond. Under the teaching of Karen Colwick and Sharissa Wills, students at Lakewood learn to sing, follow music in a music book, play an instrument, and perform in concerts and musical plays. Performance highlights include the Kindergarten Christmas Tea, Third Graders singing at the Temple Mall to welcome Santa, and the Fourth Grade musical, “Christmas in the West.” Second Graders present a musical salute to our country during “Old Glory Day, USA,” and First Graders have performed at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home for Valentine’s Day. This year, Fifth Graders return to Lakewood to perform at “Christmas on the Chisholm Trail” in Belton. We could not have the wonderful music program we have at Lakewood Elementary without the support of parent volunteers, who bring their children to performances, help set up and take down risers, pin on those wonderful “Santa Hats,” and much more. Thanks, Lakewood music volunteers!
