AVID

AVID is taking a Field Trip to Texas A&M on January 22nd. The trip will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.. See Mrs. Hale for more information

AVID
means "Advancement Via Individual Determination." It is a structured non-traditional college preparatory academic elective that directly supports students in rigorous curriculum.

The Mission of AVID

The mission of AVID is to ensure that ALL students, and most especially the least served students who are in the middle:

  • will succeed in rigorous curriculum;
    will complete a rigorous college preparatory path;
    will enter mainstream activities of the school;
    will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges; and
    will become educated and responsible particpants and leaders in a democratic society

The AVID Student Profile

AVID is looking for students with academic potential who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Average to high test scores
    First to attend college
    2.0-3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
    Historically underserved in four-year colleges
    College potential with support
    Desire and determination
    Special circumstances

Process includes, but is not limited to:

  • a written application
  • oral interview
  • review of grades, TAKS scores, attendance and behavior records
