Through novel studies and literature circles, students will learn to apply the skills needed to effectively read, understand, and analyze a piece of literature.  Students will create projects that correlate with each novel, and will be evaluated by their classmates regarding effort, relativity to the story, and creativity.  Additionally, as fifth graders prepare for middle school, they will be held responsible for correct usage of grammar, punctuation, and spelling as is appropriate for their grade level.

This year your child will take the TAKS test in Math, Reading, and Science.   Your child will be required to pass the Math and Reading portion of TAKS in order to be promoted to sixth grade.  Each student will have three opportunities to do this.  Fifth grade is a year of intense learning.  Students will gain a tremendous amount of knowledge, but also improve in leadership, responsibility and independent learning.
