Academics : Fifth Grade
Students in 5th grade math will focus on building upon their math skills using various methods. Students are expected to have knowledge of their operation facts in order to apply them to new situations that involve whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Another main focus area is on the understanding of fraction concepts such as comparing and simplifying. In order to be successful in math students must understand what they read in order to perform computations accurately. For this to happen students need to have a rich math vocabulary. Each week students will be introduced to several new (or not so new) math terms. 5th graders are required by the state to pass the Math TAKS test in order to be considered for promotion to 6th grade. Students will be given 3 opportunities to do so.
