I am excited to be a counselor at Joe m. Pirtle Elementary! My experience as a mother, teacher, counselor, and fellow human being will enable me to work with our students. I think children are wonderful!. They become more fabulous as they learn the three R's: Reading, Respect and Responsibility. It delights me to guide children in their path to adulthood.

My name is Donna Kyler and I moved here from Arlington Independent Schools. I earned my Bachelor's in Science from East Tennessee  State and my Master's in Education from Texas Wesleyan University.

Janet Easley, Special Education

My name is Janet Easley.  I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1994.  My family includes my husband, two sons, and two dogs.  I like to be outdoors hiking, sailing, skiing, fishing, and gardening.  I love helping kids succeed in school.

Lisa Sortor, K-2nd Comp. Ed Teacher

Iam the K-2 Comp. Ed Reading Teacher at Joe M. Pirtle Elementary. I have been teaching since 1989. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1989 and a Masters of Education in 1992 from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor and a Administrative Certification in 2008 from Tarleton State University. I also have the following certifications for ESL, GT, Early childhood, and Reading Specialist. I enjoy spending time with my son and daughter, reading, traveling, and learning.

Terry Taggart, 3rd-5th Comp. Ed Teacher

I graduate from Belton High School in 1970. I received my Bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State in 1974 and my Master's Degree from Baylor University in 1979. I began teaching in Belton in 1975. I enjoy cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and singing in my church choir.

Shannon Gish, ESL Teacher

I graduated from UMHB in May of 1993, with intentions of being a Social Worker. I indeed was a Social Worker for three years at the High School level. It was there that I decide to become a Bilingual teacher. I taught High School Spanish first, and then came to Elementary. I am married and have two sons. I enjoy playing softball and many other activities that keep me outdoors.

Angela Cowan , Functional Academics

My name is Angela Cowan. My husband, Mike, And I have four wonderful children. I am originally from Michigan where I attended Michigan State University. I have a Master's in Education from the University of North Texas. When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching my children play soccer, and reading. I am excited about being a part of this family at Joe M. Pirtle Elementary.

Mark Grose, Deaf Ed. Interpreter

My Name is Mark Grose. I have a great love for all kid's, including deaf and hard of hearing. I've been using sign language with the deaf since 1977 and teaching since 1987. I graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1986. I'm married with 2 grown kids. I'm also a soccer referee and enjoy all outdoor activities.

My name is Laura Deeken and I am the speech teacher.  I graduated from Baylor in 1993 and started to work as a speech pathologist. I work with K-4th grade, and I love working with all different ages. My students are working on improving communication and language skills, which are so important for school and social situations. I have a huband, two children, and one cat. My hobbies are scrapbooking and driving back and forth from church, baseball and dance
