     Sparta 5th Grade is a committed group of teachers whose main goal is to create lifelong learners. We want to equip students so that they will be able be take on the task of being effective  participants in a changing complex world. As we work toward growing the mind, we also seek to make sure students develop compassion and integrity as well.

 

  5th Grade Monday Memo

Week of November 17 , 2008

Things we will be focusing on this week:

Mathematics- This week we will learn about using models to relate decimals to fractions that name tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. We will also learn about doing prime factorization. We will review equivalent fractions and common factors. There will be a math Taught Curriculum Assessment on Tuesday, November 18th that will cover everything we have covered up to this point in math.

The website Study Island is available to help you work on math concepts with you child. The username would be firstname.sparta(example: johnsmith.sparta). The password would be the number students put in when they go through lunch line.

Make sure your child knows their multiplication facts through 12 x 12

Make sure your child knows the prime numbers between 1-50.

Language Arts-

          ELA: Homographs and Multiple Meaning Words

          Writing: Fiction writing, poetry, similies, metaphors

          Reading: Inferencing

Science- Retest on Monday “Energy”. Astronomy- The sun, moon, and systems in the sky.

We will be basing our conduct grades for the progress reports and report cards on the following chart:

0-2 write ups = Excellent in Conduct

3-4 write ups = Satisfactory in Conduct

5-6 write ups = Needs Improvement in Conduct

7 or more = Unsatisfactory in Conduct
