  • Project Update - May 2023

The 2022 Bond included funding for Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Fine Arts additions at Belton High School, upgrades for the existing CTE spaces, and other capital improvements and renovations.

Following the passage of the 2022 Bond, the district collaborated with stakeholders to identify program requirements. Architectural design began in the fall 2022 and will continue in the design phase through Spring 2023. Construction activity is expected to begin by June 2023 with completion scheduled for fall 2024.

    Fine Arts Addition:
The building design includes a new band hall that will include ensemble, percussion and office spaces, as well as storage spaces for instruments, uniforms and color guard.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Addition:
The building designs include a CTE Addition that includes classroom spaces for ROTC, AV, and Culinary Programs, including portrait/broadcasting/green studio spaces, and a kitchen and cafe.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Renovation/Upgrades
The designs for the existing CTE building renovations include upgrades to the construction shop and wood shop, as well as classrooms to be used for ag and vet tech programs.

Design team work continues at a fast pace. The project is being fast-tracked, meaning the design documents are being published in phases for use by the construction manager in bidding-specific scopes of work as soon as designs are completed.  This allows the construction team to order long-lead materials and begin initial demolition and site work before the full design documents are published.  The first “Guaranteed Maximum Price” (GMP#1) will be presented to the Board for approval at the regularly scheduled meeting on April 17, 2023.  GMP#1 includes materials and equipment with long-lead times such as electrical and mechanical equipment, roofing materials, as well as structural elements such as concrete and steel needed for the building structures.  GMP#1 also includes work associated with demolition, earthwork, and site utilities.  Initial construction activity at the school is currently scheduled to start at the end of May 2023, immediately following the end of the current school year.
