The 2022 Bond included funding for classroom additions at Southwest Elementary, reducing the district’s dependence on long-term portable buildings to accommodate new students.

Following passage of the 2022 Bond, the district collaborated with stakeholders to identify program requirements, and the project is currently in the final stages of the design process.

This elementary addition was designed in accordance with Belton ISD’s 2022 Educational Specifications, and designs include 10 classrooms, art and music rooms, and a new gymnasium. Plans also include collaborative spaces for Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and teacher planning.

Design team work continues at a fast pace. The project is being fast-tracked, meaning the design documents are being published in phases for use by the construction manager in bidding specific scopes of work as soon as designs are completed. This allows the construction team to order long-lead materials and begin initial demolition and site work before the full design documents are published. The first “Guaranteed Maximum Price” (GMP#1) will be presented to the Board for approval at the regularly scheduled meeting on April 17, 2023.  GMP#1 includes all work associated with demolition, earthwork, and underground utility work at the project site. Initial construction activity at the school is currently scheduled to start at the end of May 2023, immediately following the end of the current school year.
