On Monday, January 27, the Belton ISD Board of Trustees selected Dr. Matthew L. Smith as the lone finalist to become the district’s next superintendent. Currently the Chief of Staff in Leander ISD, Smith has more than two decades of experience in public education serving as a classroom teacher, at-risk program coordinator, athletic director, campus administrator and district administrator.
A superintendent is the educational leader and chief executive officer of a district. In Belton ISD, he or she will be responsible for more than 12,200 students, more than 1,800 employees, the daily operations of over 20 campuses and facilities, and the overall district's success.
In identifying the next Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Trustees is seeking a person who will continue to lead BISD into the future, building upon our successes and using our strengths.
The Board recognizes the role that our "Big Red Community" plays in those strengths and successes and would like all students, staff, parents and taxpayers to share what is important to them with BISD's next leader.
Please lend your voice to this important process. An online survey will be available on the district's website November 8 through November 15.
Thank you for your interest in joining Belton ISD. We hope that the following information assists you in better understanding the Belton ISD culture, along with the responsibilities and qualifications of the superintendent position.
