• District of Innovation

    Upcoming Meeting:
The District-wide Education Improvement Committee held a public meeting to take action on the District of Innovation Plan.

The meeting was held on February 17, 2022 at 5:00pm at the Belton ISD administration building, 400 N. Wall St., Belton, TX 76513.

In the fall of 2016, a committee of teachers, administrators and parents explored becoming a “District of Innovation.” That designation was created during the legislature’s 2015 session to allow school districts to receive some (but not all) of the same exemptions from the Texas Education Code that charter schools receive. Belton ISD’s District of Innovation plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees on February 27, 2017 with an expiration date of February 27, 2022.  In the fall of 2021, the District Education Improvement Committee evaluated the plan on December 7, 2021 and voted to move forward with the plan during the public meeting held February 17, 2022.  The Board of Trustee's approved the District of Innovation plan during the February 21, 2022 Regular Board Meeting.

Belton ISD's proposed District of Innovation Plan addresses three major areas of the Texas Education Code: teacher certification, minimum attendance for class credit or final grade, first day of instruction, and transfer exemption. The approved plan may be viewed at the link below.  For questions or comments regarding the plan, please contact Sharon Chaffin, at Sharon.chaffin@bisd.net
