In February 2026, Belton ISD launched a strategic planning process with the goal of developing a 5-year, comprehensive roadmap for the district to launch for the 2026-2027 school year. The strategic planning process is essential because it ensures that our path forward truly reflects the needs and desires of the community we serve.
As part of our process, a Strategic Planning Committee of 70+ individuals from across the community was established to help lead this work. The strength of this group is the collective diversity of thought, opinions, values, and beliefs that are all represented in our Belton ISD community. The committee was instrumental in developing the core values and beliefs that will serve as the foundation of the district’s work in support of our shared vision and mission.
A key action the committee, district leadership and the Board of Trustees were all charged with throughout the process was to take a deep dive into these areas:
- Strengths (What’s working?): These are the things you do exceptionally well. They are things you have control over.
- Weaknesses (What’s not working?): These are the things that hold you back. Like strengths, these are internal—you have the power to fix them.
- Opportunities (Where is the "open door"?): These are external factors in the world that you could take advantage of. You don't control them, but you can benefit from them.
- Threats (Where is the "danger"?): These are external things that could cause trouble. You can’t stop them from happening, but you can prepare for them.
The themes that emerged from the analysis of the different stakeholder groups were used to develop the strategic objectives for the overall plan tied to our four priorities: Students, Staff, Community and Financial Management. District Leadership presented the Destination 2031 Plan to the Board of Trustees who formally approved the vision, mission, values/beliefs, and strategic objectives on April 20.
The next phase of the strategic planning process is for district and campus leaders to develop the key action steps, progress measures and targets to achieve our strategic objectives. This portion of the plan will be presented to the board and our school community prior to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
The Destination 2031 plan is our commitment to how we will achieve the shared vision of our district community. Keeping our entire community informed on our progress will be a priority. We will do this through multiple modes of communication including:
