Campus Snapshot

  • South Belton Middle SchoolSouth Belton Middle School opened in the fall of 2011 as the third middle school in Belton ISD. The land that the school is built on was previously a cow pasture and has some old-growth hardwood trees growing here that are over 100 years old. The property contains a historical rock-constructed well to remind us of the history of the land. The architecture of South Belton was designed to allow for natural lighting and open, flexible instructional areas to facilitate student collaboration. The school was also designed to support the first one-to-one student technology initiative in the district. Every student at South Belton was issued an iPad to use in class and to use outside of school for schoolwork. Since we opened our doors, South Belton has been a leader in instructional technology integration. As a result, we were recognized for six years running as an Apple Distinguished School as a further testament to our dedication to the use of instructional technology.

Currently, we are home to over 600 students in grades six through eight. Our school population is diverse with 33.2% of our students identifying as White, 55.8% identifying as Hispanic, 5.6% African-American, 1% identifying as American Indian, 1.3% identifying as Asian, 0.2% identifying as Pacific Islander, and 3%  identifying as two or more races. Also, 69.7% of our students are currently identified as economically disadvantaged. South Belton is a “Community Eligibility Program” campus, meaning that all of our students eat breakfast and lunch at no cost. Our academic, athletic, and fine arts programs are well established and successful. For instance, our Jazz Band (the only middle school Jazz program in the district) has been recognized both in and outside of the community with many individual and group awards and accolades. Our theater arts department has been named “Best Play” three out of the last four years at the district one-act play festival.

We are home to two special district programs, including Functional Academics, and Lifeskills.
