Belton High Cheerleaders Win National Title

The Belton High School cheerleading team are national champions after a tremendous win at the National Cheerleaders Association championship this weekend in Dallas. 

Preliminary competitions were held on Saturday, followed by finals on Sunday.

The squad, comprised of 29 students from freshman to seniors, placed first out of six teams in the Large Intermediate Coed High School division, receiving a raw score of 97 out of 100.

Belton was also named Grand Champion of Intermediate Teams for receiving the highest score out of 90 teams and was also awarded Superior Showmanship.

“The Belton High cheer coaches are extremely proud of our team,” Belton Cheer Coach Ginger Elliot said. “The BISD NCA Cheerleading Team was able to display their technical skills, as well as their showmanship abilities. I want to especially thank Belton High School Alumni Dahlston Delgado for his help with this squad. His knowledge of cheerleading and choreography really showcased this team’s talents and athleticism."

The team won a bid to compete in nationalsfrom their performance at a NCA camp in July.

This was the first year Belton competed in the national competition, which saw more than 240 teams competing.
