Demographers Report shows Belton ISD’s growth continues

At the April 15, 2024, Belton ISD Board of Trustees meeting, Zonda Education presented its spring demographic report.

Zonda Education's Hudson Huff shared that BISD continues to grow at all levels, noting the pace of growth is around 1.2 percent.

The report indicated that BISD saw over 1,700 home sales in 2023. The largest single-year home sales in BISD were in 2020 when over 2,800 new and existing homes were sold. Zonda Education said the decrease in new and existing home sales in the area may explain the slower growth trend.

Even so, Zonda Education reported that within five years, projections indicate BISD will have roughly 15,000 students. Within 10 years, projections suggest student enrollment could be closer to 16,200 students. The district has nine future subdivisions with nearly 5,800 lots in the planning stages. Groundwork is underway on nearly 1,400 lots located in nine subdivisions.

“Belton ISD continues to be a destination district,” Huff said. “BISD has grown by 1,900 students over the past five years.”

Due to strategic foresight from the Board of Trustees and the successful passage of the 2022 Bond election, Belton ISD has expanded its capacity to accommodate 1,400 more elementary students. The bond allowed for the construction of James L. Burrell Elementary, Hubbard Branch Elementary and a classroom wing at Southwest Elementary. The district is successfully managing growth because of the additional learning spaces and the new elementary attendance boundaries that will go into effect next fall.
