BISD Seniors Receive BEEF Scholarships in Virtual Ceremony
Belton ISD seniors were recently awarded more than $246,000 in scholarships by the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation (BEEF). The awards, presented in virtual ceremonies to 130 Belton High School and Belton New Tech @ Waskow students on May 21, represent 135 scholarships.
“The partnership that exists between BISD and BEEF is all about the success of our kids,” said Ben Smith, principal at BHS, during the ceremony. “We are so very thankful for all that the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation has done for our students and our schools.”
BEEF Board President Allyn Testroet said 100 percent of the organization’s funding comes from private sources such as individuals, corporations and foundations.
“Our donors recognize the impact they make by investing in Belton students with scholarships,” Testroet said. “Even with the challenges presented with a pandemic, their generous support continued. We are grateful for their partnership.”
BEEF was founded in 1992 by BISD alumni to enhance the quality of education for all students in Belton ISD. The independent, community-based non-profit provides teacher grants, scholarships and other programs to support economically disadvantaged students.
