Belton ISD Celebrates Reopening of Belton Middle School
Belton ISD officials and community members gathered for a “Back and Better” celebration on Wednesday to mark the reopening of Belton Middle School as the district’s fourth middle school campus.
The school, located at 1704 Sparta Rd., opened in 1993 as Belton Intermediate School for fifth and sixth graders. It was renamed Belton Middle School in 2005 and served sixth, seventh and eighth grades . In 2014, the campus became home to Belton High School freshmen and was called the BHS9.
When the doors opened in September for the 2020-2021 school year, the campus was once again home to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students as Belton Middle School.
Principal Stacie Seveska said the campus community adopted “back and better” as a slogan to acknowledge the school’s history. “Back” honors the school’s history and “better” references growth.
“‘Back and better’ really acknowledges the building’s strong history in Belton ISD and the culture we’re trying to create,” Seveska said.
Superintendent Matt Smith recognized the importance of good facilities - and that this building had served a lot of purposes for the district - but noted that schools are more than a building.
“Schools are a place where community is born, where community is raised, where students are valued, where teachers invest in students and where students can thrive,” he said. “Those things are happening here.”
Eighth-grader Julie He, a cheerleader and the school’s newly elected student council president, is glad to be part of the BMS community.
“BMS will always be a part of me because of the positive impact it has brought upon my life,” she said. “Although we have only been in school for nine weeks, I can already tell this year is going to be a year that I will never forget. I can’t wait to see what new adventures this year at Belton Middle School holds.”
Student leaders gave attendees tours of the school after the brief program held in the cafeteria.
