Meet Marissa DeLeon

Marissa DeLeon

Current title/school? Eighth grade science teacher at South Belton Middle School

What inspires you to work in Belton ISD? I grew up attending Belton ISD schools. I attended Southwest Elementary, Belton Middle School and graduated from Belton High School in 2015. I loved being a Belton Tiger so much that I just had to come back! Being able to work with students growing up in my hometown is truly amazing. Coming in every day and seeing their faces is what truly inspires me to do what I do. Every day is a new day and every morning I am excited to see what memories and experiences I will gain at South Belton MS.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself. Because of the amazing opportunities BISD offers, I was able to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree by the age of 20 and get an early start to my career.

What was a pivotal moment in your career? A pivotal moment in my career was when a student thanked me for showing them I cared at the end of my first year with a heartfelt, hand-written note. I came to realize that I can have a huge impact first-hand on helping a student feel loved by not only teaching them, but by showing compassion and care.

Academics? Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tarleton State University (earned an Associate of Arts from Temple College through the Texas Bioscience Institute Middle Campus Program while a student at Belton High School.)
