Belton ISD Recognized for Excellence in Financial Management
BELTON, TX — Belton ISD is one of only 10 school districts in the state to be awarded the inaugural Award of Excellence in Financial Management by the Texas Association of School Business Officials.
This new program recognizes Texas school districts that have implemented professional standards, best practices and innovations in financial reporting.
“Our goal in school finance is to first and foremost always be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Jennifer Land, chief financial officer for the district. “My team works hard to be good managers of the money that the local community has entrusted us with and go above and beyond minimum reporting standards. It feels good to be recognized for this transparency.”
A TASBO accounting subcommittee developed the criteria for the award based on state and federal guidelines. Each applicant submitted documentation in these areas: finance department essentials, staffing and training, controls, budget management, processes, cash management, communications, financial reports, financial analysis and projections, external staff training and innovation.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the way our school business team continues to pursue opportunities to demonstrate best practices in financial stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” said Matt Smith, Belton ISD superintendent. “Their commitment to continuous improvement and professional learning is at the center of being among the first districts in Texas to receive this recognition.”
Other 2021 recipients include Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Katy ISD, Lovejoy ISD, Mansfield ISD, Pasadena ISD, Pearland ISD, Rockwall ISD, Royse City ISD and Spring ISD.
