Belton High School and Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow seniors will return to Tiger Field a final time as students and leave as graduates after commencement ceremonies on June 10.
“Our students really enjoyed graduating at such a meaningful place last year,” said Ben Smith, principal at Belton High. “The experience overall was phenomenal, and based on input from seniors this year, we wanted to recreate that with a more traditional ceremony this year.”
The district will host three sessions to accommodate the over 800 graduates — Belton High seniors at either an 8 a.m. or noon session and Belton New Tech seniors at 10 a.m.
Top graduates and senior class officers will offer commencement addresses to their classmates seated on the field. Individual names will be announced and graduates will have their moment to cross the stage and receive their diploma. Family and friends will watch and cheer from the stands.
The event will follow the district’s athletic clear bag policy and no umbrellas rule. Ceremonies will only be delayed or moved due to lighting with changes communicated to students and parents through email and text messages.
“Rain or shine, we’re graduating our seniors on Thursday,” said Jennisty Thomason, principal at Belton New Tech. “They’ve worked hard for this accomplishment and we look forward to celebrating the class of 2021 with their friends and family.”
