Students Offer Summer Reading Recommendations for Classmates

Belton ISD is launching a new social media campaign to encourage students to keep their reading skills sharp this summer with book recommendations from their classmates.

Each Thursday through Aug. 12, students from across the Big Red Community will be featured on the district’s Facebook and Twitter accounts promoting their personal summer reading recommendations.

“We were looking for a fun, student-centric way to encourage students to keep reading this summer,” said Elizabeth Cox, executive director of communications and community engagement. “We love the mindset that everyone is a reader, some just haven’t found their favorite book yet. Maybe this campaign will help our students find some great new reads and help develop them into lifelong readers.”

Several of the district’s school libraries will also be open this summer to make finding a good book easier for families.

“Even during the summer break, we want to be able to support our students,” Cox said. “Providing them continued access and opportunities to practice their literacy skills will go a long way toward improving their success in all subjects this fall.”
