BISD Announces New Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
At Monday's at regular monthly board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon announced that Mike Morgan, current Athletic Director, will serve as the new Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for Belton ISD. Formerly the district’s assistant athletic director, Morgan took on the role of athletic director in January 2017.
In addition to serving as an assistant athletic director and academic coordinator, Morgan has coached the Tigers’ inside receivers and special teams. He was also the head coach for the junior varsity “Red” team and for boys track. Morgan came to Belton ISD in 2007. Before that, he was in Gatesville ISD where he was the athletic director and head football coach from 2001 to 2006 and head softball coach from 1999 to 2000.
“Mike has been a go-to person for many years,” Superintendent Susan Kincannon said. “I am excited that he will provide that same caliber of leadership in this new role for issues directly involving our students, including oversight of our safety and security department. As the district grows, so does our need to ensure strong leadership and customer service in this area.”
In his role as Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Morgan will provide leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of the district’s student services programs including: Attendance, Health Services, Safety and Security, Student Code of Conduct, Student Disciplinary Concerns, Student Hearings, and Student Transfers.
Morgan has a master’s degree in coaching and athletics administration from Concordia University and a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science from Southwest Texas State University. His wife, Becky, teaches fourth grade at Sparta Elementary School. Their daughter, Abbey, graduated from Belton High School in 2016, and their son, Seth, attends Belton High School.
Kincannon said, “I know that I can count on Mike to do quality work and take care of our kids. He has the confidence and respect of everyone he works with – coaches and student athletes but also campus administrators, parents, teachers and community members.”
“I would like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Kincannon and her staff for giving me this opportunity,” Morgan said. “I am looking forward to working extremely hard to help Belton ISD meet the needs of our students and families.”
Morgan will begin his new assignment on July 1.
