Meet Veronica Russell

Current title/school? Assistant principal at South Belton Middle School

What inspires you to work in Belton ISD? Since my arrival, I have been met with nothing but kindness and the spirit of family. Having the opportunity to serve our SBMS community has been a joy as I’ve watched the relationships flourish between myself and our families. THIS experience has truly been the start for a new and adventurous career.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself. I was crowned Miss Tallulah in 1987 representing my hometown of Tallulah, Louisiana.

What was a pivotal moment in your career? After serving as a social worker working with homeless children in New Orleans and as a site director for Communities in Schools, I knew then that I wanted to make a more intense impact on the youth that we serve. My thoughts were that if I became a teacher then I could hone in on my social work skills and integrate a more holistic approach with students and families in an effort to redirect their paths in a way that would allow them to reach their full potential and goals. My teaching career then led me to wanting to be more of an instructional leader to assist teachers in building capacity on their own craft to better serve students and their own professional goals thus leading me to become an assistant principal.

Academics? Bachelor of Science in biology from Dillard University, Master of Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans and a Master of Education Administration from Lamar University.
