VFW Post 4008 Endows Scholarship for Lake Belton High School Seniors
BELTON, TX — Lake Belton High School, which opened its doors last fall, now has its first endowed scholarship thanks to the generosity of members of Henry T. Waskow VFW Post 4008.
Post Commander Gary Leofsky and Quartermaster Larry Youngblood presented a check for $25,000 to the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation (BEEF) on Tuesday to endow a $1,000 annual scholarship.
The scholarship will go to a graduating senior who has a veteran within their family.
Lake Belton High School currently serves freshmen, sophomores and juniors and will add its first senior class next school year.
Andy Bass, vice president of development for BEEF, said the foundation is fortunate to have such generous community partners. VFW Post 4008 has previously endowed scholarships for the district’s other high schools — Belton High School and Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow.
“We appreciate their desire to help our Belton ISD students be able to further their education after they leave our district,” he said. “They gave so much as soldiers and continue to give back to our community.”
