New Tech Registration Now Open for Legacy Applications

Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow is seeking it’s next freshman class of students.

The application window opens Jan. 10 for legacy students — those with a sibling who is a current or former New Tech student and children of New Tech employees. All other students can apply on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Feb. 1. The application and more information can be found at www.bisd.net/registration.

“New Tech is such a special place,” said Principal Kim Winters. “Our campus is a small, tight-knit community where we focus on collaboration, written communication, innovation, professional ethics and oral presentation. Our teachers emphasize project-based learning and community service, and students thrive.”

New Tech currently operates as a program of Belton High School but will become a stand-alone school of choice beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. With the transition, the school will be the home of the Dragons with school colors of red and purple.

“This group of incoming students will have the unique opportunity to start new programs and clubs, create new traditions and really help us establish New Tech’s identity moving forward,” Winters said. “It’s an exciting time to be a Dragon.”

New Tech students will be able to take new Career and Technical Education course offerings in the areas of law and public safety, government and public administration and drone operation.

The school is named after Belton native Capt. Henry T. Waskow, who died while serving in World War II. Waskow’s legacy was largely defined by his commitment to helping others and dedicating his life to having a positive impact on those he led, his community and his country. In 2015, New Tech was named the country’s first-ever Purple Heart School.
