Pre-K, Kindergarten Enrollment Opens April 12 for 2023-2024 School Year
Belton ISD is gearing up to welcome its newest and youngest learners to the Big Red Community next fall.
Beginning April 12, parents can enroll their pre-k and kindergarten students for the 2023-2024 school year.
“This is an exciting time for families as they prepare to start their child’s formal education,” Gabi Niño, executive director of elementary campus leadership, said. “These years are so important, and Belton ISD’s world-class educators take their role in laying this foundation very seriously.”
To register for pre-kindergarten, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2023. For kindergarten, the minimum age is 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2023.
Registration can be completed online through Skyward, the district’s web-based service, or in person at the student’s assigned campus.
“All families must create a Skyward account for their student,” Niño said. “If they are having difficulty uploading the required documents online or don’t have access to a computer, our campus staff will be happy to assist them in person at the student’s campus.”
Skyward can be accessed at www.bisd.net/enrollment.
In-person enrollment is scheduled at Belton ISD’s pre-k campus, the Belton Early Childhood School, on April 25 and April 27 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and April 26 from noon-7 p.m. BECS is located at 501 E. 4th Ave. in Belton.
Once the enrollment process is complete, campus administrators will stay in touch with families about next steps before the first day of school, including possible opportunities to visit the campus and meet the teacher events.
The benefits of attending pre-k or kindergarten for students are numerous, Niño said. They grow in confidence, ability to communicate feelings and needs, gain experience working with peers and practice resiliency — along with developing academic skills like literacy and number sense.
“Young children are learning sponges,” Niño said. “It’s amazing to see the growth they make from the beginning of the year to the end.”
One of the largest benefits, she added, is gaining an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
“Pre-k and kindergarten are launch pads to the future,” she said. “These are opportunities parents won’t want to miss.”
