BISD to Contract with Private Security Company
A Special Meeting of the Belton ISD Board of Trustees was held to discuss the proposed plan for Texas House Bill 3. The Board took important action and passed a resolution citing a “good cause exception” to adopt an alternate standard for House Bill 3, a school security bill that requires that at least one armed security officer be present during regular school hours at each campus.
Belton ISD is seeking a good cause exception because of the lack of personnel available to fulfill the requirements. The alternate standard will be to contract with a private company to provide 19 armed security guards, who will serve in addition to the district’s nine school resource officers.
These security guards will be designated staff to act solely in the capacity of armed security at all BISD campuses, adding another important layer to the district’s security systems and procedures.
The private security company, Vets Securing America, was also approved by the Board of Trustees on August 31. The BISD District Safety Team and Vets Securing America will immediately begin implementing a plan to staff the positions approved tonight.
