Board Recognizes Lake Belton High School Students International STEM Competition Finalists

At the September 18, 2023 meeting, Belton ISD Board of Trustees held a public hearing and adopted the 2023-2024 Campus Objectives as presented by Deputy Superintendent Dr. Malinda Golden. campus objectives align to BISD’s goals and key progress measures. In preparation for the meeting, Dr. Golden stated, “Annually, our campus principals work with their teams to study data and identify key areas for improvement. They identify critical steps to support the district goals and their campus objectives.”

 

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Mike Morgan provided updates on the 2022 Bond Projects. James L. Burrell and Hubbard Branch Elementary are coming along as scheduled. The status of the additions and renovations at Belton High, Lake Belton Middle, and Southwest Elementary Schools were shared. We also learned about the upcoming Ag and Delta Facilities and how they are almost ready to accept contractor bids. 

 

During student recognitions, the district celebrated Lake Belton High School students Rachel Kim and Jillian Webb for becoming 2023 Innovation Summit Finalists. They qualified for the annual science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) event after developing Xena Airspace — a cloud-based calculation engine that can determine the most optimal route between two cities and pair the information with a flight system. 

 

950 students from around the world applied for this prestigious opportunity, Kim and Webb were of the 25 students accepted and won the Glinsky Expo Exhibit Award. Rachel and Jillian placed first in the Aerospace and Aviation category during the Conrad Challenge Innovation Summit at Space Center Houston.

 

Belton ISD celebrated its partnership with the Belton Journal for its commitment to supporting the greater community and sharing captivating Belton ISD stories. The Belton Journal was established in 1866 and is Texas’s oldest continuously published weekly newspaper. From the Belton Buckle, to athletic event coverage, latest news and more, the Belton Journal plays an integral role in Celebrating BISD. 

In their Governance Report, Trustees shared highlights of events around the district that they have attended. 3 Patriot Day celebrations, and other community connection opportunities are among the highlights shared. They enjoy being involved in the recognition of students and staff members. The Board of Trustees are excited for continuous learning and look forward to attending the TASA/TASB (Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards) Convention txEDCON in late September and learn alongside other Texas school district leaders.
