Camp Champions: Fostering Inclusivity, Inspiring Champions

Belton ISD is committed to fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities for each and every student to thrive. In this spirit, the district created an exceptional learning opportunity by introducing Camp Champion in 2019. Camp Champion is proud to be a dedicated participant in the Special Olympics.

Camp Champion is a one-day camp that allows all Belton ISD students who receive special education services to participate in a sport. Belton and Lake Belton High School coaches and athletes model drills and facilitate activities for students with special needs. Camp Champion currently hosts bocce ball, bowling, football and cheer, and basketball and dance team camps. Belton ISD’s Special Programs Department is seeking additional camps to offer in the future.

Belton and Lake Belton High Schools proudly hold the distinction of being Unified Champion Schools, a title that reflects our unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of belonging among our students. To maintain the Unified Champion Schools title, Special Programs hosts events like Partners PE, PreProm, and Camp Champion. The district's dedication to the Unified Champion Schools program stands as a testament to our mission of celebrating the unique abilities and potential of each and every student.

“This is a wonderful way to bring the BISD community together for one event and let our students with special needs experience what it is like to be on the playing field part of a team,” Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Gabrielle Niño stated. “Camp Champion is just one opportunity our students have that exemplifies our district’s Journey of a Graduate Competencies empowering students with diverse abilities to showcase their skills and compete in an encouraging and supportive environment.”

Camp Champion promotes physical fitness but also emphasizes values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. Through these activities, Belton ISD is creating an inclusive and caring community where every student can shine and learn

important life skills, making a profound impact on their overall well-being and personal growth.

The Belton Champions’ next event is a bowling competition, which will be held at Phantom Warrior Lanes at Fort Cavazos on November 17 at 9 a.m.
